Witnessing the American population decline from a strong, supremely capable populous over the last 4 decades to succumbing to obesity, decreased mobility, chronic disease, inactivity and the unknown effects of our lifestyle choices is a powerful wake-up call to action and change. I want to be involved in the change our society needs to live a healthy lifestyle. From watching loved ones struggle with mobility and health issues and being an older parent, a new reason for maintaining and spreading health and fitness emerged. More and more evidence is piling up supporting the claim that degenerative disease and decrepitude are avoidable or even reversible through the long-term maintenance of a healthy active lifestyle. We’re all going to die someday, but I want to do the things now that support me break dancing at my 90th birthday surrounded by loved ones, and staying out of the nursing home. We only get one life, and if we’re going to squeeze every drop of awesome out of it, we need to start now. I want to help people avoid the nursing home by making sure they can always escape from one!
I was apprehensive for about 6 months after I saw a friend doing CrossFit. Finally, I got the nerve up to try it by signing up for a class at Violet City CrossFit, now, with my good friend, RJ. I jumped right into Elements classes – thought I was going to blow chunks after the first WOD, but came back 2 days later for another class. That was three years ago. I owe so much to RJ, Boss, Joe and K for coaching me, supporting me and challenging me to keep going and to get better. My life has changed, for the better, in so many ways from joining this movement and this community. I would be remiss if I did not give the ultimate glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. HE found me a few months before I found CrossFit. Therefore, Jesus and CF are the foundation of my testimony. I know HE planned for me to walk into VCCF in His time.
My fitness journey has been incredibly rewarding thus far, and I look forward to helping others to claim their strength and independence for a long time to come.
